We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with entrepreneurial ambitions and strong academic record to back them up. We make premium products for child development and play, and we need a rock star to help our engineering team commercialize more than 30 products per year. The job responsibilities include technical development of a variety of products, from conceptual stages through design, validation testing and manufacturing. Job Description
- Create and collaborate with Design and Engineering teams to develop children's toys and products that promote early stage development
- Manage Engineering development efforts to improve existing product line
- Evaluate designs relative to strict safety, regulatory and performance requirements
- Generate 3D CAD models and photo realistic renderings to communicate designs
- Manage drawing database and file storage systems to maintain version control
- Prepare engineering drawings and technical documentation for manufacturing
- Manage manufacturing design changes for legacy SKUs
- Design and perform product characterization tests for new and existing products
- Work directly with suppliers to evaluate designs and optimize for manufacturing
- Organize manufacturing bills of materials
- Evaluate manufacturing quotations and partners in overseas locations (travel expected)
- Apply problem solving techniques and Root Cause Analysis to troubleshoot manufacturing issues
- Provide technical support for a cross-functional startup team
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required due to the potential need for international travel and in-person interaction with parents and children in this role
- 500+ hours CAD experience (Solidworks preferred)
- Superior understanding of mechanics and materials
- Sound understanding of polymers and design for injection molding
- Natural skill with, experience in, and love of model making and prototyping
- Proven application of drafting standards and practices
- Exceptional technical writing skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven leadership and teamwork skills
- Thorough understanding of GD&T
Preferred Qualifications
- Work experience or extracurricular activities related to Engineering discipline
- Experience with children & child development
- Advanced knowledge of manufacturing methods for wood, textiles, and metal
- Basic knowledge of Adobe suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
- DFMEA & Root Cause Analysis
- Experience with rapid prototyping and 3D manufacturing
- Photo-realistic rendering tool capabilities (Keyshot or similar)
- Familiarity with mechatronics (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.)
